Future Leaders Programme (FLP) insights

Christina Lund is one of our most recent joiners on the BP FLP. She took the time to tell us about what led her to join the programme and what she’s been up to so far

“After six years of working in the consumer goods industry in the Nordic region, I decided to further my education and broaden my personal perspectives by pursuing an MBA at The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. Having lived in many Western cities / countries, I felt the need to gain the experience of living in Asia. It was an amazing journey, and one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I finished up with an exchange semester at London Business School in the fall of 2014, jumping straight into my new role on the BP FLP in February 2015.

"I was attracted to BP and to the FLP due to the global career growth opportunities within the different business areas of the company. I was looking to change my role, industry and location(s), and the FLP offered all of the above. The opportunity to grow and learn over four years, while gaining exposure to senior leaders, creating a strong network, and being part of a supportive community, are just a few of the things I look forward to experiencing.

"My first rotation is within the lubricants business, one of three businesses within BP’s Downstream segment, where I am based at the Castrol (our lubricants brand) headquarters in the UK. In my role as customer management activation lead I am mainly working on a global simplification and standardisation project. Through this project I will get the opportunity to work with our markets across the world, supporting them through the roll-out and implementation phases of the project.

"Since joining I’ve had many great experiences, but one that really stands out was getting the opportunity to meet all the senior members of the Castrol leadership team during my first few weeks.

"As a new hire into the industry, one of my primary goals is to develop my industry knowledge across different countries and regions, so it has also been incredibly enriching working with the various markets around the world – so far I have been on calls with everyone from the Americas’ leadership team to the local Australian team.

"I was very impressed with the BP recruitment selection and assessment process, where the emphasis was all about putting the very best talent through their paces whilst encouraging us to network with our fellow peers and also giving us the opportunity to meet some inspiring leaders from the business. In similar fashion, the team accountable for the offer and on-boarding process at BP was well-structured and efficient, making it easy to jump into my new role quickly and focus on finding my feet. It has been a great start to the programme!”
